We now have an FAQ list that we hope will help you answer some of the more common ones.
What do you mean by a modular system?
Our stainless steel modular range has been designed to specific sizes (300mm increments) that enable the user to build a fully fabricated functional kitchen with ease and minimal fuss. We’ve done all the work for you – with access to all our BIM drawing files and product data online, you can incorporate Real SS modules into your design process to help and determine what product works best for your project.
What materials are used in the construction of Real SS Stainless?
Only the highest grade 304 and 201 (in non-food contact areas) stainless steel components are used in the construction of Real SS Stainless. No 430 grade or galvanised steel is used. All worktops, legs, and undershelves are manufactured from 1.2mm gauge stainless. The legs are made from 38mm round tube with a polished finish utilising machined collars to suit and bar frames from 30mm fully welded square tube. All of our stainless steel product is manufactured exclusively in our ISO9001-2015 steel fabrication factory.
What gauge and finish of stainless steel is used?
Worktops and undershelves are all 1.2mm thick stainless steel with a No. 4 brushed finish. By utilising a 1.2mm gauge in all construction (including the undershelves) our system provides strength and durability. Using the same gauge throughout construction is not an industry norm. However, we at Real SS Stainless know, that in doing so, it will make a massive difference for you in the longevity of your product and ensure you are receiving the best value stainless steel kitchen product.
What is the recycle content of stainless steel?
Of all the available mainstream metals and alloys accessible today, stainless steel is arguably the more recyclable, sustainable and environmentally friendly metal. The typical amount of stainless steel ‘scrap’ that is used to make new stainless steel is between 65% & 80%. Eighty percent of all scrap (offcuts) in our production are used for our modular components.
What stiffening or reinforcement is used under the worktops?
A 3mm zincanneal core is fixed to the underside of the standard stainless steel work tables, which is then coated with a marine grade protective paint. For sink units, we use a 1.2mm stainless steel reinforcing channel, which ensures that units in wet areas are a full stainless steel construction.
Why would I purchase from you?
We pride ourselves on the Quality, Availability, and Value of our modular range. Think of your Real SS Stainless purchase as an investment in unparalleled quality stainless steel product. We are confident that the Real SS Stainless system reflects the value, integrity, and professional finish of our stainless steel product.
What is your delivery process and how is product shipped?
If desired, our partners are able to facilitate next day delivery. Our distribution network consists of partners all over the country, so our product will be shipped to you from your nearest distributor. Depending on the product you buy, it may need assembly once received. Our flatpack delivery ensures a simple build using detailed step-by-step instructions, with no required tools, as they are all provided. This facilitates easy installation.
What application are suitable for stainless steel?
Stainless steel is suitable for use in the commercial and public sector such as hospitals, food service, childcare, prisons, schools, hotels, and community housing, to name a few.
Does stainless steel rust?
We use 304 grade and 201 grade stainless in all our production. Avoiding the lower nickel and chromium content steels such as 430 and galvanised metal ensures we minimise any likelihood of corrosion. That being said, it is critical to adhere to a strict cleaning schedule to ensure longevity of any stainless steel product. Stainless does not ‘rust’ as you think of regular steel rusting with a red oxide on the surface that flakes off. Corrosion is generally caused by contaminants settling on the surface of the stainless steel.
What to avoid using around stainless steel?
Should these come in contact with your stainless steel they must be washed away immediately with clean water.
- Bleaches containing hypochlorite will attack stainless steel and cause pitting and staining.
- Certain foods, when left for prolonged periods, can cause pitting and corrosion. Examples are citric fruit juices, salt, vinegar, mustard, pickles, and mayonnaise (even used teabags can leave hard to remove stains).
- Silver dip cleaners contain acids which attack stainless steel and leave a permanent stain.
- Muratic acid which is sometimes used with grout around title and stone etc.
- Strong acids can damage stainless steel (i.e., photographic developing liquids or denture cleanser), if they come in contact with the stainless steel.
